About Us

United Malayalee Association, popularly known as UMA, Bhopal noted for its excellent community service activities in the State Capital is an organization with a heart. The association was formed in such a time when the city was in great need of service-minded devoted young people who could share the grief and console the gas victims in the aftermath of the gas tragedy. The yeoman services rendered by the association for helping the gas victims was the first step in this direction. Since its inception in 1984 it focused in social service without losing interest in other activities. The association with its limitations has been able to contribute in a small way in mitigating the suffering of the people. Whether in offering services to the sick, financial help to the poor patients, donating blood, helping stranded persons, helping in sending dead bodies to their relatives, our members have extended whole heated support to these noble causes.

Besides this, the association has been conducting activities like celebrating important festivals, organizing cultural events, various competitions for children, sports meet, group picnic, felicitation of noted personalities in different fields, running a Crèche, library, donating food to the destitute, free medical camp, blood donation camp etc. regularly. The association has also been extending possible help and cooperation to the Govt. Bodies in promoting our arts & culture. Recently, the association has taken initiative in forming a forum of ‘Central India Malayalee Federation’ to take up common issues related to our community members living in central India such as improvement of rail services to south, starting direct air services to Kerala etc. The efforts are still to bear fruit and with the help of member associations the effort will continue. The Association is a member of NORKA and AIMA also.

The selfless services the association has rendered during the last 33 years have gained the faith and confidence of the people and have been appreciated by the Govt. and NGOs. The activities have been possible with the help, support and cooperation extended by our dedicated members and well wishers. We hope to continue our services with more vigor and zeal for which we look forward to cooperation and patronage of everybody.
